Profile

Hiroko Ota is a Professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). Her specialties are national public finance and economic policy. She advises Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s cabinet on policy making for the “Abenomic” economic reform. She serves as the Acting Chair of the Council for Regulatory Reform and acts as a member of the Government Tax Commission. Previously, Ms. Ota served as the Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy under the first Abe Cabinet, and also as the Deputy Director General for Economic Research, Cabinet Office. In the private sector, Ms. Ota acts as the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Mizuho Financial Group, Japan’s 2nd largest financial services group.
